Fracture Care: Foot & Ankle

When you think you may have broken a bone in your foot or ankle, your first thought might be urgent care, the ER, or a large orthopedic office. But here’s the problem:

  • Urgent care and ERs can stabilize, but they almost always refer you out — adding delays, duplicate visits, and extra bills.
  • Orthopedic groups see everything from shoulders to hips. You’ll wait weeks to be squeezed in..

At About Feet Podiatry Center, you skip the middleman. We are foot and ankle specialists — it’s all we do, and unlike big systems, we can fit you in the same day for fractures and stress fractures.

Understanding Foot & Ankle Fractures

Fractures can range from hairline cracks to displaced breaks. They often result from:

  • Falls, twists, or direct trauma
  • Sports injuries and overuse
  • High-energy accidents
  • Underlying bone weakness (osteoporosis, illness)
  • Repetitive stress (runners, dancers, etc.)

Typical Symptoms Include

  • Pain and swelling
  • Bruising or tenderness
  • Trouble bearing weight
  • Visible deformity or misalignment
  • Limited ankle or foot motion

If you suspect a fracture, don’t wait — getting the right treatment early prevents long-term problems.

Our Fracture Care Approach

  1. Precise Diagnosis

    • Detailed exam and history
    • Imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI when needed)
    • Evaluation of alignment, joint involvement, and soft tissue
  2. Conservative vs Surgical Treatment

    • Conservative care: casting, bracing, immobilization, restricted weight bearing
    • Surgical care: recommended for displaced or unstable fractures, or those involving joint surfaces
  3. Surgical Options (When Needed)

    • Open reduction & internal fixation (ORIF) with screws, plates, or hardware
    • Minimally invasive fixation where possible
    • Bone grafting / reconstruction for complex fractures
    • Joint fusion or realignment if damage is severe
    • Ankle arthroscopy (ankle scope) in select cases for cartilage or joint inspection
  4. Rehabilitation & Monitoring

    • Stepwise recovery plan
    • Gradual return to motion and strength
    • Imaging follow-up to ensure proper healing
