PRP & Regenerative Injections
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a treatment made from your own blood. A small sample is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which contain growth factors involved in healing. The concentrated platelets are then injected into the injured area.
Conditions PRP may help
- Chronic plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Other long-standing tendon problems in the foot and ankle
PRP is usually considered when pain has lasted months and has not improved with conservative care such as stretching, supportive shoes, orthotics and physical therapy.
What to expect
PRP is done in the office. We draw your blood, prepare the PRP, and inject it into the problem area, sometimes using ultrasound for guidance. The visit usually takes about an hour. You may feel soreness for a few days, and we’ll give you instructions for activity afterward.
Realistic expectations
PRP is not a guaranteed cure. Research on PRP is mixed and still evolving, and results vary from person to person. When it helps, improvement is gradual and may take several weeks or longer. Some people need more than one injection. We’ll give you an honest view of whether PRP is a reasonable option for you.
Insurance
PRP is often not covered by insurance. Our staff can explain the cost before treatment.
